The apple in Val di Non
If we asked you to describe the Val di Non with two words, which ones would you use? Come on, we know you’re thinking of potato tortel, but especially apples… on the other hand, the hectares occupied by apple orchards are “only” 6500. The apple in Val di Non is considered a true queen and now we will tell you something that we are sure will amaze you: did you know that with all the apples harvested in a year, placing them in single file, we could be able to go around the world 2 and a half times? Unbelievable, but true 😅
The apple harvest in Val di Non
The apple harvest is the busiest time of the year. There are thousands of farming families in Val di Non who, from the end of August to the end of October, are busy reaping the fruits of a long working year. This time of year can be summed up with a single dialect word: coìr ☺.
The harvesting of the apple from the tree is done manually but is increasingly supported by technology, with the use of tractors and, in more recent times, also harvesting wagons. Unfortunately, however, not all fields are “comfortable”, in some cases the slope is so accentuated that the harvest becomes heroic and the baskets with apples are carried on the shoulders.
In the field, the apples are harvested with the stalk, one by one, taking them and turning the wrist upwards. They are then placed in a basket with an opening bottom that will be used to transfer them into the larger box.
Walking in the Park
To get to the entrance of the gorge of the Novella River Park, you will take a road that passes through many apple orchards, fascinating in any season. Although we love autumn, our favorite season remains spring, with the vegetative awakening and the plants in bloom, you should smell that smell!
Even in autumn, however, walking in the Park has its reason… The colors, the crisp air and the slightly less intense sun rays that pass through the leaves, give moments of peace and tranquility.
The season at the Park has almost come to an end and we invite you to come and visit us before we hibernate for a few months. But if you really don’t have the opportunity to visit us anymore, we are waiting for you on our Instagram and Facebook ☺ pages
